Like the boy who cried wolf, leftists seem to find evidence of racism anywhere and everywhere.
And just like with the boy who cried wolf, the frequency of false claims means that more and more often a weary public just tunes them out.
Now, as leftists search for racism around every corner they’ve discovered one more incredible offense.
A brief titled, “Addressing weight stigma and fatphobia in public health,” was published by the University of Illinois Chicago’s School of Public Health and in it, the word “obesity” is declared racist, and the focus on body size is somehow strangely rooted in racism.
How could that possibly have anything to do with race?
Well, according to the brief, “Around 81 percent of societies historically have favored people in larger bodies. Larger bodies signified wealth and prosperity while thinness signified poverty and weakness. However, this began to change due to racism and eugenics.”
How this began to change due to racism and eugenics is unclear – as there are a myriad of other potential explanations.
The brief, written by Amanda Montgomery, RD, LDN, continues, “The public health field has not taken a critical look at this research, focusing on the narrative that weight is controllable and a personal responsibility. If the goal is to find the most ethical and effective strategies to achieve optimal public health, there needs to be an alternative to ‘obesity’ and weight-focused approaches and a shift in understanding of weight stigma as a social justice issue.”
The really dogmatic and “anti-science” part of the brief comes with the assertion that, “higher weight is not causal to worse health outcomes.”
That’s just demonstrably untrue.
Diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease have been long known to be directly attributed to obesity and all lead to poor health.
And isn’t it a little strange how for two years we’ve been bombarded with commercials and public safety announcements about COVID, when the simplest and sure-fire way to better survival odds from the disease is to maintain a healthy body weight?
Why wasn’t that message repeated over and over again during every commercial break of the evening news?
What does several thousand extra unnecessary deaths matter when there is “body positivity” to promote?
When the choice for medical professionals is between potentially hurting the feelings of those from historically marginalized communities by promoting healthy lifestyles or choosing to stay silent because it happens to be the latest position among the left-wing elite, which is actually more racist?
Inquiring minds want to know.
