New York’s bartender-turned-Congresswoman has become an icon of the political left.
She seems to revel in publicity to the extent that on rare occasions when that isn’t the case it is notable.
Now AOC just got uncharacteristically coy when she was asked one simple question.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) loves the attention.
It’s an inescapable conclusion.
She loves attention so much that she pretended to be in handcuffs, putting on a show for the cameras when she put her arms behind her back at a pro-abortion demonstration outside the Supreme Court.
Performative art is a favorite pastime for AOC
At the time, even Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) called her out for the stunt, saying, “Politics has become performative art. So of course @aoc fakes being in handcuffs. Performance, not policy, is the name of the game up here. 💁🏻♀️”

In another incident this spring, Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) criticized the New York congresswoman when she posted on TikTok just after a congressional hearing outlined the security risks of the app.
While appearing on Faulkner Focus on Fox, Cammack said of Ocasio-Cortez, “It’s clear that there are some legislators up here that are just thirsty for attention, and they’ll do anything and use any medium to get that attention.”
Given that background, it is surprising how coy she was when asked why she hasn’t visited the border since Joe Biden assumed the presidency.
The silence (for a change) is deafening
When asked why she hasn’t visited the southern border in all the time, AOC told the New York Times, “This is something that we’re actively planning on. What I have done is tours of our New York-area facilities. Right now, this crisis is in our own backyard.”
When pushed further about why she hadn’t yet made the trek, she continued, “This crisis is right here in our own backyard, I have absolutely prioritized having that visitation presence. If we only think of the immigration crisis as a border issue and only understand our border as a southern border and not John F. Kennedy Airport, that constitutes a lack of imagination.”
That’s one explanation; another is that she can’t easily milk such a trip for attention now that the Democrats own completely the disaster that is unfolding at our nation’s southern border.
Indeed, AOC herself even noted, “immigration is arguably this administration’s weakest issue.”
Back in 2019, Ocasio-Cortez visited El Paso and criticized the conditions at a facility there, saying, “This [Donald Trump’s] administration has established concentration camps on the southern border of the United States for immigrants, where they are being brutalized with dehumanizing conditions and dying.”

This is not hyperbole. It is the conclusion of expert analysis ⬇️https://t.co/2dWHxb7UuL

The fact is that the situation is now several orders of magnitude worse because Democrats prefer to pretend that the border doesn’t even exist.
AOC knows that her party’s record on immigration and border security is an unmitigated disaster and that’s why, in an unusual turn of events, she’s been uncharacteristically quiet on the subject.
If Republicans don’t remind the voters of this fact in a big way before the election it will be political malpractice.
