The ability to defend one’s life, family, and property is a fundamental part of being an American.
But in some jurisdictions, the government doesn’t seem to care when one of its citizens is under attack by brazen criminals.
And now, an armed California homeowner who was defending his family just had his most basic constitutional rights stripped away.
California victim has his concealed carry permit taken
On November 4, Vince Ricci came home to find armed criminals jumping his fence and trying to force their way into his house.
Ricci’s wife, his 5-month-old child, and the family’s nanny were inside, so he sprang into action, fending off the criminals with his firearm.
But just days after the incident, Ricci received a call from the sheriff’s office telling him that his concealed carry permit was “revoked.”
In a video interview, Ricci said, “After successfully defending my home and my family and my 5-month-old child, California has now decided to suspend my Second Amendment [rights].”
Ricci spoke to Fox News Digital and said that the sheriff said the reason for taking away his permit was because he was “yelling” at Los Angeles police officers when they visited his home to investigate three days later.
But Ricci said that the LAPD carried out “sloppy police work” and didn’t even pick up the casings that were scattered near his home to use as evidence.
It has been extremely difficult to obtain a concealed carry permit in California for years, and Ricci said it took months for his permit to be processed.
Ricci used his firearm on his private property, and California law allows legal US residents over the age of 18 to carry firearms on private property and residences without needing a license or permit.
In the video, Ricci said the shooting was a clear case of self-defense and that he was confronted by two men “pointing guns at my chest” while he tried to enter the home.
He said, “My situation is unique because it happened at my front door, all on camera. But this happens time and time again all over the country . . . People sweep it under the rug because it doesn’t behoove their political agenda. The fact is, evil will always exist.”
Ricci also said that this was not the first time he had dealt with criminals, as his home was also broken into in June and his car was broken into a few months prior.
The LAPD did say that the department was investigating the crime and was asking members of the public to come forward with any tips on Ricci’s case.
Ricci gets support from fellow gun owners
Ricci compared Los Angeles to a “war zone” and said that Left-wing leaders have failed to protect local citizens.
Russel Stuart, the owner of Beverly Hills Guns, said, “The bottom line is that this is a man who defended himself on his own property with a gun that was legally owned by himself.”
Stuart also said that he has seen a large increase in people applying for CCW permits in recent days, mostly due to the war in Israel as the local Jewish community looks for ways to defend themselves.
“The fact that anyone, our politicians, our law enforcement officers, our district attorney could see this man as anything but a hero defending his family is absolutely disgusting,” said Stuart.
